Pilot Project 

River Architects participated in the design/build/finance team for a revolutionary program established by NYSERDA to drastically reduce the energy use in our existing building stock state-wide. The goals of this program were to create built solutions to demonstrate the efficacy of fossil fuel-free buildings that are net-zero- addressing the root cause of Climate Change, reducing operating costs, and greatly enhancing the indoor health and comfort of occupants.  The pilot program was intended to precipitate change in the building market to encourage effective measures to drastically rethink energy consumption in buildings, seed the transformation of the construction industry to meet these ambitious goals through new product development and building component prefabrication.

NYSERDA seek high-performance solutions for existing affordable multifamily buildings, and is aggressively working to help create new solutions by:

• Empowering the industry to create high impact technical solutions that dramatically reduce net-energy usage and create more comfortable, healthier, and better-looking buildings • Catalyzing the market through demand aggregation and partnership with forward-thinking building owners and industry players • Making it easy for new solutions to be installed at scale by working with the right people and organizations to finance these solutions and guarantee their performance. 

They are doing this based on the self-evident reason “because change needs to happen.”
