Recreational Guest House
Garrison, NY
This Greek Revival guest house is situated on the eastern bank of the Hudson River, taking in views to the north and west of the Hudson Highlands. It serves as a focal point in a larger estate, offering an idyllic order to a rugged landscape.
The guest house replaces a deteriorated concrete block structure that has little reference to its surroundings. The health and environmental concerns that it has caused will be corrected. This new structure is designed with Passive building principles, minimizing energy loss, providing optimal indoor air quality, and maximum comfort.
The new structure has a kitchenette, a bathroom, and open living area that serve as a library, activity space, and guest quarters. River Architects worked with the owner on the master plan for the estate, which includes the renovation of the main house and a second guest house on the property.
