Cold Spring, NY

River Architects completed a series of studies investigating the redevelopment of the grounds of a former battery plant in Cold Spring, New York. The comprehensive planning exercise introduced new start-up spaces for creative businesses in a variety of live-work spaces. The site would also include civicoriented programs, such as a community movie theater and galleries with public green spaces and pedestrian friendly walkways.  River Architects envisioned the site as the new economic engine of the Village, as it had been historically.

River Architects is pursuing the concept of an energy efficient and responsible Village constructed to Passive building standards. Passive building is a design standard that can reduce energy consumption by as much as 90% compared to conventional construction. If built, this type of development would set an iconic precedent, both locally and nationally. In addition to energy-efficient construction, the initiative set forward by LEED for Neighborhood Development became an important site development tool.
